Mbatha said the aim of the visits were to obtain first hand information on how the police stations were dealing with day to day challenges.

"Members of the Forum will also note good practices which in turn will be shared amongst the Forum members for the benefit of other stations faced with similar circumstances countrywide," she explained.

The Forum meetings are rotated among the provinces and in the last quarter the Forum met in the Eastern Cape.

"For the SAPS to seriously make a significant impact in the fight against crime, it must be prepared to time and again review its strategies for the better, hence the rotation of Forum meetings in different provinces," Mbatha added.

This approach was beginning to yield results, with police in the different provinces realising the importance of working as a collective, she said.

The Forum will also take time to listen to the concerns of communities in the area by holding an imbizo.

"The holding of an imbizo is considered to be a well-thought move, because the unmediated interaction with the community will give SAPS top management a clearer picture of what the communities experience during their encounter with the police, particularly at station level," Mbatha said. - BuaNews.
